Cape Town — President Cyril Ramaphosa said he would sue his upcoming trip to Davos to discuss South Africa’s plans for the G20 Summit later this year.
In his weekly newsletter, Ramaphosa said he was set to attend the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland this week where he would outline South Africa’s priorities for the G20 Presidency.
“At the centre of our G20 agenda is the promotion of cooperation among G20 and other countries on the most pressing issues facing the world. This cooperation should not only take place at a government-to-government level. It should involve all social formations,” Ramaphosa said.
He said previous G20 Presidencies focused on dialogues with civil societies and other non-government institutions and announced South Africa’s intention to convene a G20 Social Forum to bring representatives together.
He said a key message he would take to Davos was the commitment to partnerships for inclusive growth and sustainable development.
“We will present our experiences of cooperation across society in South Africa and encourage greater emphasis on partnerships in international relations. In particular, we will make a call for global companies to partner with governments, entrepreneurs and stakeholders in emerging markets to pursue sustainable and inclusive growth,” he said.
As we take our message of partnership and progress to Davos this week, we reaffirm our commitment to work with all social partners in pursuit of inclusive growth that benefits all South Africans and leaves no one behind. #LeaveNoOneBehind 🇿🇦https://t.co/y1hHwyfx06 pic.twitter.com/M70SyX0KN2

According to IOL, South Africa’s Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Dr Dion George, is set to accompany Ramaphosa to the WEF. The meeting is important for developing and developed countries for economic deliberation and to accentuate global collaboration.
This year’s forum theme, Collaboration for the Intelligent Age, encompasses five auspicious thematic priorities: Rebuilding Trust, Reimagining Growth, Investing in People, and Safeguarding the Planet, and Industries in the Intelligent Age.
“South Africa is the current President of the G20, and this is an opportunity to elevate the development priorities of the African continent and the Global South on the G20 agenda—most notably the critical issue of climate change,” he stated.
The Davos forum will propel South Africa’s priorities into the international spotlight and showcase a more inclusive and sustainable approach to global challenges.
