Cape Town – President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended his congratulations to President Masoud Pezeshkian on his recent election as the new President of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Ramaphosa also commended the Iranian people for their active participation in the democratic electoral process, which concluded with the final rounds on June 28 and July 5, 2024.
South Africa and Iran mark a significant milestone in their diplomatic relations this year, celebrating the 30th anniversary since formal diplomatic ties were established in 1994.
Ramaphosa affirmed South Africa’s commitment to furthering cooperation with Iran, both bilaterally and within multilateral frameworks.
“President Cyril Ramaphosa emphasised the need for South Africa and Iran to continue collaborating closely in promoting the agenda of the Global South through shared membership in groupings such as the Non-Aligned Movement, the BRICS, the Indian Ocean Rim Association, as well as other formations,” Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said.
