Cape Town – President Cyril Ramaphosa has arrived in New York to lead the South African delegation at the 78th session of the General Assembly.
According to SABC, his participation comes as the gathering is grappling with challenges such as delayed development, difficulties in achieving global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and increasing political divisions in a shifting multi-polar world.
Ramaphosa is accompanied by several ministers, including those responsible for international relations, state security, communications, social development, trade, industry, environment, water, sanitation, and health, among others.

During his visit, Ramaphosa will meet with the UN Secretary-General and participate in events like the SDG Summit, a business roundtable, and the General Debate, where he will deliver South Africa’s statement.
This week’s focus also includes a Climate Ambition Summit, a High-Level meeting on Financing for Development, and discussions on reforming multilateral institutions.
