Cape Town – G4S Cash Solutions is reportedly offering a R1 million reward to anyone with information on two men involved in a heist that killed one of the company’s security guards at Mnandi Spar in Centurion, Gauteng, on Friday last week.
According to IOL, the robbery occurred around 15:00.
At the time of the incident, the guard was reportedly loading a secure cross-pavement cash collection unit into the armoured vehicle, when he was accosted and shot with an R5 rifle.
The perpetrators took off with the cash device but were unable to access any cash as the company had, over the course of the past few years, invested significantly in upgrading its existing armoured fleet and cross-pavement devices with a range of world-class CIT-mitigation technologies, which rendered all stolen cash unusable.

“…These senseless attacks are futile, as the technology we use means any cash stolen is completely unusable. Our message to would-be criminals is clear – don’t bother attacking our teams because you will get away with nothing of value,” the report quoted Kevin Govender, cash-in-transit director for G4S Cash Solutions as saying.
Times Live reported that the company was devastated by the loss of its employee and had conveyed its deepest condolences to his family.
“Anyone with information is urged to contact Ray Barlow on 083-324-3460 or Shaun Maleo on 083-750-4042 from G4S Cash Solutions. This information can be shared anonymously or on the record,” the report quoted Govender as saying.
The perpetrators were caught on CCTV, wearing distinctive clothes.
