Cape Town – Patriotic Alliance (PA) leader Gayton McKenzie is offering a R100 000 reward, and the War Against Parental Alienation group has put up a R10 000 reward for information leading to the finding of seven-year-old Joslin Smith, who went missing on February 19.
Reports say that Joslin was last seen under the care of her mother’s boyfriend.
Residents reported seeing her with an unidentified boy or man, IOL reported.
The community, organisations, and political parties have joined the search, with police helicopters and drones deployed.
“The community shared with me their frustration in following up leads themselves and getting told that they were not allowed to enter certain places. The mother of the missing girl today joined a search party in searching the houses of other people, you don’t need me to tell you the many wrong things with such an action.
“This is not politics, let’s all work together and find this little girl before massive riots erupt. I am hereby offering R100,000 to anyone with information that can lead to the arrest and guilty finding of the culprit(s). We can all do so much more, time is of the essence, let’s act with urgency and speed,” the report quoted McKenzie as saying.
According to EWN, while authorities are actively pursuing leads, an Advocacy group, Missing Children South Africa, has expressed concern about the accuracy of information circulating on social media regarding the case.
False assertions, such as the discovery of the little girl’s body, have deeply upset the Smith family, the reort said.
Bianca Aswegen, the national coordinator of Missing Children South Africa, appealed to the public to avoid spreading misinformation or making unverified comments on posts.
She emphasised the importance of contacting the South African Police Service (SAPS) or Missing Children South Africa directly with any information.
“Once again, we do ask that anyone with information please contact SAPS directly or Missing Children South Africa,” the reort quoted Aswegen as saying.
