Cape Town – A two-year-old girl was found floating in a swimming pool at her home in Avoca, near Durban on Sunday morning.
Reports said that she was unresponsive.
Neighbours acted quickly and performed CPR, successfully resuscitating the toddler, Times Live reported.
“Neighbours contacted Rusa for assistance at about 9.04am. Reaction officers were immediately dispatched and on arrival discovered that the child had been successfully resuscitated by neighbours, who commenced CPR on the unresponsive child,” the report quoted Rusa director Prem Balram as saying.
Netcare 911 paramedics arrived shortly thereafter, stabilised the child before a medical helicopter airlifted her to the hospital.
“A Netcare 911 specialised medical helicopter landed near the scene and airlifted the child to hospital,” News24 quoted Rusa as saying in a statement.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst confirmed the incident: “We arrived and offered advanced life support treatment on the child, ventilated the child, put the patient in a helicopter to hospital.”
