Cape Town – The South African government is considering how to handle a possible visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin for the upcoming Brics summit, according to the Presidency.
Spokesperson Vincent Magwenya confirmed that President Cyril Ramaphosa discussed the implications with Putin during his recent visit to St Petersburg.
He said Ramaphosa is in final consultations with other Brics leaders on the matter, before making an announcement.

Magwenya said that the issue of weighing options is no longer relevant and that Ramaphosa is now in final consultations with other Brics leaders before making an announcement.
“We can move on from the discussion of options. We are beyond options.
“All that remains now is for the president to finalise his consultations with his Brics counterparts,” Magwenya said.
The South African government has been seeking legal advice on whether it is obligated to execute an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court against Putin for war crimes in Ukraine.
