“This office can confirm that the body of a newborn baby was found in Plein Street, Cape Town this morning at about 9:11 am by a passer-by,” the report quoted provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg as saying.

“At first, you would think it was just some random thing lying in the street, but it was a baby. I am a mother. I have children. Who would do this to an innocent child?,” the witness said as quoted by the report.
Times Live reported that no one has been arrested in connection with the incident. However, a case of birth concealment has been filed for investigation.
“A concealment of birth case was registered. The investigation into the matter continues,” the report quoted Twigg as saying.
Police are further urging anyone with information about this incident to contact Crime Stop 0860 010 111.
