Cape Town — The inmate who had escaped from the Boksburg Correctional Facility has now been rearrested and his back in custody.
In a statement, the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) revealed that the inmate, Martin Jackson, was apprehended.
“This swift apprehension demonstrate’s the Department’s commitment in ensuring that all inmates serve their sentences as mandated by courts,” Department spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo said.
Nxumalo added that the Department would be conducting a full investigation to understand the circumstances surrounding Jackson’s escape in an effort to prevent future incidents.
“The inmate will now face additional criminal charges related to the escape,” he added.

In an earlier statement, the DCS confirmed that Jackson escaped from Boksburg Correctional Facility on Wednesday evening.
Jackson was admitted to Boksburg on 10 April 2015 and is serving a 20-year sentence for robbery, theft and possession of firearms with ammunition.
At the time, the Department said it would use all its resources to ensure that Jackson was court and brought back to justice.
