Cape Town — The Hawks arrested a school principal and an education department manager on allegations of selling teaching posts for R15 000 each.
The Hawks identified principal, Lydia Masiu (53) and Petrus Mokobe (63) as the two suspects and both appeared in the Ventersdorp magistrate’s court on Tuesday on five counts of corruption, TimesLIVE reported.
Hawsk spokesperson in the North West, Lieutenant Colonel Tinyiko Mathebula, said members of serious corruption teams arrested the two on Monday. Mathebula added that the arrest came after investigations into the alleged corruption over the appointment of school teachers in Ventersdorp.
He said further investigations found that Masiu and Mokobe received money from complainants in exchange for positions at the school, reportedly paying up to r15 000 in instalments.
