Cape Town – The Presidency has issued a statement on Twitter, cautioning people about fraudulent messages circulating in which the president is falsely requesting funds.
The statement clarified that the president has not sought any funds or endorsed any financial transactions with third parties.
“We would like to bring to the notice of the general public that there are scam messages purporting to be sanctioned by the President or The Presidency that have been circulating.
“The President does NOT request any funds or endorse any payments or contracts between third parties, whether through websites, adverts, social media, e-mails, letters, texts or phone conversations,” the presidency said.
The statement urged individuals who have received such communication from the president or the Presidency to discontinue contact with the scammers and report the incident to law enforcement if any funds were transferred.
