Polokwane – A 22-year-old pregnant woman was allegedly raped by a doctor during a medical examination at George Masebe Hospital outside Mokopane on Sunday, 27 April 2025, prompting Limpopo police to launch a full investigation.
Police said that the incident occurred in the Tinmyne policing precinct in the Waterberg District.
“According to preliminary information, the victim was being examined when the doctor allegedly sexually assaulted her. The traumatised patient immediately reported the incident to other healthcare staff, who in turn alerted the police. A case of rape has since been opened,” police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said.
The alleged victim reported the assault to other hospital staff immediately after the examination. Police were then called to the scene, and a case of rape was opened.
The suspect has not yet been arrested.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing.

Limpopo’s Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police, Major General Samuel Manala, condemned the incident and assured the public of a swift and thorough investigation.
“Crimes of this nature are extremely serious and particularly disturbing when committed by individuals entrusted with the care of vulnerable members of our community,” said Manala.
“We are treating this case with the urgency and sensitivity it deserves, and we urge anyone who may have additional information to come forward.”
