Cape Town – Despite Police Minister Bheki Cele’s silence regarding a Crime Intelligence official’s presence at the EFF’s gala dinner, the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) has reportedly expressed its worry over Major General Feroz Khan’s affiliation with a political party.
Khan attended the EFF gala dinner on Friday.
He was seen sitting at the same table as Adriano Mazzotti, a tobacco manufacturer and close associate of the EFF.
According to News24, Khan claimed he was there for official business, but it was confirmed that his ticket to the event was provided by Mohammadh Sayed, a business partner of Mazzotti and an EFF donor.
“The image created by the posture Mr Khan has leaves little to be desired as it created an unwarranted impression,” the report quoted Popcru’s spokesperson, Richard Mamabolo, as saying.
Various political parties, including the DA and the Freedom Front Plus, criticised Khan’s actions, questioning the potential conflict of interest and calling for explanations from Cele. They demanded the implementation of a code of conduct to monitor the behavior of police officials. However, the EFF declined to comment on the matter.
