Cape Town — The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) has expressed its concern over the allegations of harassment and intimidation of female correctional services workers.
Popcru has alleged that senior officials have been abusing their power and asking for sexual favours from female officials. They went on march to raise awareness regarding harassment against female officials, SABC News reported.
Popcru Northern Cape Chairperson, Zamani Mathiso, wants officials who perpetuate these behaviours to be removed from their positions.

“We want to raise this particular issue and that its 16 days of activism, that speaks to issues of GBV. We had a march today that went to the offices of the area Commissioner at Correctional Services. We are highlighting the awareness that it’s happening around employees that are employed by correctional services,” Mathiso said.
He said this behaviour mainly occurs around Kimberley management were the area Commissioner abuses power.
“Workers are harassed by the area commissioner. There’s nothing really that workers can do. We decided to bring this awarness campaign to the Northern Capem which was led by gendr coordinators. It speaks to harrassment and abuse of power. Employees within this particular sector especially at Correctional Services, they are not protected, worse by a woman that leads the region,” he added.
He said female workers especially female workers they are abused in this particular management area. He added that it was a joint-operation between the Northern Cape and the Free State.
