Cape Town – South African Police Minister Bheki Cele has assured the KwaZulu-Natal residents that his department is ready to handle any situation over the festive season through a “no-nonsense” approach in dealing with lawbreakers.
Cele said this, as he joined the National Police Commissioner Khehla Sitole in concluding the last leg of the Safer Festive Season inspection tour in the province on Thursday.
During the tour, they took a turn at the Umlazi Mega City, one of the malls that were hugely affected by the July unrests.

Cele along with the KwaZulu- Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, delivered a message of reassurance to the retail complex, saying that the police were ready to respond to any eventuality.
“All law enforcement agencies will not be taking any nonsense from anyone, especially criminals. Lessons have been learnt from the past and police will remain on high alert at all times to safeguard communities, property and infrastructure.
“Discussions within the JCPS cluster have been progressive and it is for this reason that the SANDF are already stationed at key national routes and guarding infrastructure in identified areas,” Cele said in a statement.
