Cape Town — The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has welcomed the imprisonment of police sergeant, Kabelo Mokoena, after the rape of his 29-year-old girlfriend.
Mokoena was handed a 12-year prison sentence by the Welkom Magistrate’s Court after his girlfriend at the time opened a rape case against him in November 2018. IPID spokesperson Phaladi Shuping said Mokoena raped the complainant when they arrived at the house, EWN reported.
“The incident that happened on the 25th of November 2018 was reported to IPID and investigated as rape by a police officer, which falls under Section 28 (1) (d) of the IPID Act. The investigation led to the arrest, conviction, and sentencing of Sergeant Mokoena.”
It is believed that the 41-year-old officer met the victim at a tavern and later requested his colleague to drop them off at an address in Thabong, Free State.
