Cape Town — South African Police Service’s (SAPS) detectives attached to the Commercial Crimes Unit stormed the City of Cape Town’s offices on Monday in a search and seizure operation.
One of the offices that were raided was that of Councillor Malusi Booi, Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements.
The City confirmed that it is awaiting further information from authorities on the reasons for the operation carried out by SAPS.

“At this stage, I am not privy to the reasons for this, and the SAPS have not yet briefed me. I have therefore requested the Provincial Commercial Crimes Unit to give me a full briefing on the matter,” said Cape Town’s Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis.
“I have also made it clear to the Mayco Member concerned that I will act swiftly and decisively should any substantive information emerge that casts a shadow on the integrity of this government,” he added.
News24 reported that police spokesperson Andrè Traut confirmed thAT detectives executed a search warrant at the Civic Centre’s offices as part of an investigation into fraud and corruption.
He said that electronic equipment and documents were confiscated in the process. However, he said that details of the seizure and investigation could be divulged at this stage.
