Cape Town – Police are investigating a shooting incident involving an off-duty Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) official and a police officer.
The incident occurred outside a nightclub in Braamfontein.
A video of the incident circulating on social media shows the two officers arguing in the parking lot. It is unclear what the argument was about.
In the video, a police officer in a white vehicle fires several shots at the JMPD officer, who falls to the ground and is declared dead at the scene.
According to The Citizen, the JMPD officer was off-duty at the time.
The JMPD spokesperson said that a vehicle prevented the officer from leaving the parking lot, leading to the argument and subsequent shooting.
“An argument ensued between the driver and the officer, and shots were fired,” he said.
“The (JMPD) officer was declared dead on the scene,” News24 quoted JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla as saying.
The matter is being investigated by Saps.
