Cape Town — Two more people, including a police officer, have been arrested in connection with the two missing cousins from Brits, who were found on Monday evening, police have said.
Zahraa (17) and Bataaviya (19) Mohamed were kidnapped outside a primary school in Brits, North West early on March and following an extensive search by multiple police teams, were found on Monday evening, with seven suspects arrested in total.
In the latest update on the case, Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone confirmed that two more suspects have been arrested, one of which is a a police sergeant, The Citizen reported.
“The suspects include a police sergeant attached to Letlhabile detectives. The team also confiscated a vehicle, which was allegedly used during the commission of the crime. The number of arrested suspects remains at six. This after two of the initial six suspects arrested on Monday, 25 March, were cleared and released after thorough interviews,” Mokgwabone said.
It has emerged that one of six suspects for the kidnapping of two Brits teenagers is a North West police officer. He was arrested in Letlhabile.
The suspects are expected to appear in court tomorrow.

North West police commissioner Lieutenant-General Sello Kwena welcomed the new arrests, especially that of the police officer, and said no one
welcomed the latest developments, especially the arrest of a police officer, which he said will serve as an indication that no one is above the law and that no stone will be left unturned to ensure alleged perpetrators are brought to book.
“The general reiterated that tarnishing the image of the South African Police Service by unethical employees will not be tolerated,” Mokgwabone said.
