Cape Town – A Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officer was reportedly killed during an argument in the parking lot of a nightclub in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning and involved two off-duty officers, one from JMPD and the other from the South African Police Service (SAPS), News24 reported.
According to JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla, the deceased officer was trying to leave the parking lot when another vehicle blocked his exit.
“An argument ensued between the driver and the officer, and shots were fired,” he said.
“The (JMPD) officer was declared dead on the scene,” the report quoted Fihla as saying.
It was later revealed that the alleged shooter was a member of the SAPS.
The SAPS officer was reportedly approached by the deceased officer, who allegedly had a firearm in hand and began assaulting the SAPS officer. The SAPS officer then retaliated by firing at the metro cop.
The Hilbrow police will investigate the incident.
