Cape Town — Police confirm the search for missing six-year-old, Joshlin Smith, has intensified as they are still pursuing all possible leads to find her.
Joshlin has now been missing for over 20 days when she was least seen on Monday 19 February. Her mother, Kelly Smith and her boyfriend, Jacquin Appollis, are among the four suspects to appear in court and currently remain in police custody until their bail hearing on 13 March.
According to police spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi says police are following up on all information at their disposal in a bid to find a breakthrough. Various searches are underway by diverse parties including the police, the Navy and municipal law enforcement agencies of the City of Cape Town and the Saldanha Bay Local Municipality where she resides, SABC News reported.
Meanwhile, Western Cape MEC for Community Safety and Police Oversight, Reagen Allen, said it is only a matter of time before Joshlin is found. He says the search for the Saldanha Bay girl has been extended beyond the Western Cape and rubbished claims that the bloodied clothes found last week belonged to the six-year-old, eNCA said.
“We are definitely one step closer to finding Joshlin, or to find what happened to Joshlin. The search has been extended beyond Saldanha Bay, the West Coast district and the Western Cape. We are wanting to ensure Joshlin is returned home. It has been distressing week considering here you have four accuse din court and it includes the mother and the boyfriend,” Allen said.
Allen said the DNA testing results will only be made available early next week.
