Cape Town – A swift police operation led to the arrest of a 34-year-old suspect shortly after he allegedly hijacked two off-duty officers and stole their service firearms in Durban on Thursday.
The incident occurred in Avoca Hills, where the armed suspect hijacked the officers’ vehicle.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said a joint team, including Greenwood Park police, task teams, and private security, tracked the suspect to Newton A in Inanda.
“He was found in possession of two firearms belonging to the two officers with 30 rounds of ammunition. A further search in the house led to the recovery two more unlicensed firearms with 12 rounds of ammunition. The hijacked vehicle was also recovered,” Netshiunda said.
The suspect is set to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
