Dutywa – SAPS Organised Crime Unit is investigating a murder case after a Mayoral Committee Member from Mbhashe Municipality was murdered on Friday afternoon, February 17, 2023, at Sofuthe Locality in Dutywa.
According to South African Police Service spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, the councilor was confronted by two men while in her car.
“According to the information, the 47-year-old Councillor was parking her car in front of her business where she allegedly went to collect money. Preliminary investigation revealed that as she was busy counting the money inside the car, she was confronted by two unidentified male suspects, one of whom was clad in a Baraclover.

“They allegedly shot her with a firearm and thereafter escaped in a white Toyota Avanza which was parked a few meters from the crime scene,” Kinana said.
Kinana added that It is further alleged that nothing was stolen during the incident.
Police have registered a Murder case for investigation, however, no arrest has been made.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently unknown and the police will not make any speculations in this regard,” said Kinana.
The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene has ordered the detectives to spare no time in ensuring that those involved in this cold-blooded murder are found in order to account for their actions.
