Cape Town — Kwa-Zulu Natal (KZN) Police are investigating an incident involving South African Revenue Services (SARS) lawyer, Coreth Naudé, who escaped an assassination attempt.
Naudé was wounded when she was ambushed by two gunmen who approached her vehicle as she drove into the parking garage of her hotel shortly after 16:00 on Thursday. She was shot through her neck and mouth, with three more shots hitting her chest and shoulder, News24 reported.
Naudé’s colleague was driving just ahead of her as they arrived at the hotel near Gateway shopping centre. Two men approached the car, fired multiple shots through the driver’s side window, and left in a grey Toyota Corolla which had cloned number plates.
She attempted to flee the attack by driving into a basement parking structure. Medica found her bloodied but conscious and was treated in the parking garage before being rushed to hospital by ambulance.
Naudé underwent emergency surgery at the Netcare Umhlanga Hospital on Thursday night and is in stable condition, two family sources confirmed. She is under heavy guard.
Coreth Naudé, a senior advocate representing SARS in a tax inquiry involving Shauwn Mkhize known as MaMkhize, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Thursday afternoon.
Coreth Naudé was shot three times outside her Durban hotel.

SARS released a statement following the shooting and the commissioner, Edward Kieswetter, condemned the tragic incident on advocate Naudé’s life.
“This shocking act is intended to intimidate officers of the court to abandon the vital work they’re performing in furtherance of our country’s legal system. It undermines the authority of the State,” he said.
Kieswetter said those who perpetrate such acts must be resisted and defeated and he called on law enforcement to act quickly to bring those to justice.
“SARS calls on our law enforcement agencies to act with speed in pursuing and arresting those who attempted to take the life of Advocate Naudé. SARS wishes Advocate Naude a speedy recovery and wishes her family well. We will not be intimidated by such acts of crime and cowardice,” he concluded.
According to IOL, Naudé is acting in a tax inquiry on behalf of SARS in its case against businesswoman and mogul, Shauwn Mkhize. Mkhize reportedly owes more than R37 million in back taxes.
SARS applied to seize 13 luxury vehicles owned by Shandi Trsut and Royal AM Football Club, two entities where Mkhize owns the majority stake.
She has had a run-in with revenue services before when in 2020, it successfully got a liquidation order against her for unpaid tax debts over R200 000.
