Cape Town – Police in Mpumalanga are investigating two cases of murder following the killing of two men during a spaza shop robbery in Lydenburg.
According to police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, a South African man and an Ethiopian shop attendant died after armed men stormed the spaza shop.
Police received information about a shooting incident and on arrival, they found about four cartridges, however, no one was at the scene but information on the whereabouts of one of the victims surfaced, Mohlala said.
“This led police to the discovery of a lifeless body of a 35-year-old South African male victim next to a shack in Shushumela, near Lydenburg,
“It is alleged that the victim was shot by the suspects, and he apparently tried to run for his life but lost consciousness not far from where he was shot.” said Mohlala in a statement.

The victim was certified dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
Mohlala said it was unclear if the man was a customer or just a passer-by, however, police were probing the circumstances leading to his death.
As the investigation continued, police received information from the medical personnel about a person who succumbed to gunshot wounds on his arrival at the hospital.
Mohlala said the police officers went to the hospital, where they were shown a body of an Ethiopian national.
“Police are probing two counts of murder and the preliminary investigation indicates that the Ethiopian national was reportedly operating in the tuck shop where the shooting occurred.
