Durban โ During a search operation, police in Kwa-Zulu Natal (KZN) found a warehouse that has been used to store expired foods in the Bluff area, south of Durban.
In a statement, police recovered a number of food items including canned fish, fizz drinks, soya beans, baby food and chip spices that were stored alongside hazardous including pesticides. Other counterfeit products including prescription medication, body lotion and expired alcohol was also found.
“During the operation police also discovered another two warehouses which were storing counterfeit big-brand clothing items worth millions of rand. Investigations are underway to locate the people responsible for the sale of expired food which is mostly sold at the township and village spaza shops, as well as the importers of fake clothing items,” police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda said.

Police intensified operations to detect vessels that are bringing prohibited items into the country, as well as products that have not been authorised to be in the country.
KZN Provincial Commissioner,ย Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, commended the units that discovered the warehouses and vowed not to leave any stone unturned in search of the people who put the lives of South Africans at risk, especially children who buy expired food from local spaza shops.
