Cape Town — South African Police Services (SAPS) arrested two Dutch drug traffickers in possession of Khat in two separate incidents at the OR Tambo International Airport.
In a statement, police said two suspects, a 21-year-old and a 59-year-old were carrying 80kg of Khat. The two suspects were travelling from South Africa to the Netherlands via Dubai when police intercepted them as they attempted to board their respective flights on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“The suspects were consequently arrested and expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court. This brings the total to 13 drug traffickers arrested at the OR Tambo International Airport in the last couple of weeks,” police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk said.

Earlier this week, police arrested a 21-year-old South African woman at OR Tambo for drug trafficking in a joint operation between the South African Police Service (SAPS) and South African Revenue Services (SARS) Customs.
“She has already released several bullets from her body and is in police custody where police are closely monitoring the release of further drug bullets.
“This process is still unfolding,” police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said.
