Cape Town – A 35-year-old Free State man, who allegedly broke into a 62-year-old woman’s house while she was asleep and raped her on Christmas, has been arrested.
In a statement, police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng said the elderly woman was woken up by a knock on her door at around 22:00.
The next moment she heard “a male voice that instructed her to undress. She was assaulted, strangled, and raped. After the rape ordeal the youngster fell asleep. The victim managed to escape through the open window to seek help from her neighbours”, said Thakeng.

He said that the police responded immediately when they were informed about the incident.
When they got to the scene they found the suspect still asleep.
He “was awoken by the police who arrested him for housebreaking with the intention to rape.
He will appear in Odendaalsrus Magistrate Court on December 28.
