Cape Town – Two suspects from KwaZulu-Natal, aged 33 and 41, have been apprehended by the Hawks for allegedly kidnapping six people and demanding a ransom.
The arrest occurred on Saturday night in Newlands East following a kidnapping incident in Pietermaritzburg the previous Friday.
According to Hawks KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo, the suspects are scheduled to appear in the Pietermaritzburg magistrate’s court on Tuesday.
The suspects reportedly demanded R120 000 for the release of the six victims and allegedly subjected them to torture while held captive.
Magma Security confirmed the incident and said they were collaborating with law enforcement agencies on the case.
It remains uncertain whether the suspects had already extorted money from the victims.
