Cape Town – The body of five-year-old boy Mvelo Gumede has been found in a swimming pool in Lotusville, Durban. Mvelo had gone missing on Wednesday afternoon and his body was found on Thursday morning.
Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesperson Prem Balram said a search was launched for the missing boy around 18:30 on Wednesday after he went missing while playing in the yard at his home.
In a post on their Facebook page, Rusa reported that Mvelo’s father contacted Reaction Unit South Africa for assistance and informed attending officers that the minor was playing with a six -year-old tenant when she decided to return home for refreshments. Mvelo could not be located thereafter.
Rusa conducted a search party and searched many locations around Lotusville – KZN without success.
The six-year old girl that Mvelo was playing with had appeared traumatised about something but Rusa were still unable to get any information out of her.
While they continued the search, a neighbour informed them that a child was located floating in his pool approximately 50 metres from their location. Upon arrival, the boy was found floating in the pool face down and with injuries .
