Cape Town – Limpopo police have successfully recovered a hijacked flat deck truck and a grader with a combined value of R4.5 million, following a swift response by the Polokwane and Musina Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU).
The recovery took place in the Musina policing area on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
“According to information received, police were tipped off about the suspect involved in a carjacking of a white flat deck truck loaded with a yellow grader that was travelling from Namibia,” police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said.
“The incident occurred at Coligny policing area in North West province. Apparently, the truck was travelling to Musina with the intention of being smuggled out of the country.

“The team reacted promptly, and the truck with a grader was spotted at Musina town on Saturday, 17 August 2024. The suspect, aged 31, was approached and arrested for possession of presumed stolen motor vehicle.”
The following day, police received additional information indicating that the grader had been moved to Louis Trichardt in Makhado. The suspect led officers to the hidden grader, which was subsequently recovered.
The white truck is valued at R1.5 million, while the grader is estimated to be worth R3 million.
Limpopo Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, praised the officers involved for their quick response and effective teamwork, which led to the successful recovery of the hijacked vehicles.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
