Pretoria – A pilot was killed on Saturday afternoon after a small aircraft crashed in the Boschkop area of Pretoria, emergency services confirmed.
The Volunteer Emergency Medical Response Unit said its team was alerted to the scene just after 16:00.
“On arrival, we found a small one-seater airplane that had crashed in a veld,” the unit said in a statement. “The pilot was assessed and found to have sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead on arrival.”
No other injuries were reported in the incident.
The scene has since been handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS), who, along with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), will investigate the cause of the crash.
Further details, including the identity of the pilot and the flight’s origin or destination, were not immediately available.
