Johannesburg – A 43-year-old Paraguayan woman was arrested for drug trafficking upon her arrival at OR Tambo International Airport on Friday, December 6, 2024, police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk confirmed.
The woman, who had landed from São Paulo, Brazil, was taken into custody after authorities identified her as a potential drug mule.
A subsequent medical examination at a local hospital revealed foreign objects in her stomach.

“A total of 33 drug bullets containing cocaine were subsequently released,”said Van Wyk.
Authorities have intensified efforts to combat drug smuggling, particularly at key entry points into the country. The arrested suspect is expected to appear in court soon on charges of drug trafficking.
Investigations are ongoing.
