Cape Town – A naked man who was reportedly threatening to commit suicide on top of a Virgin Active Building in Hatfield was eventually rescued following hours of negotiation with him to abandon his mission.
Tshwane Emergency Services Department firefighters reportedly attended to the man who was suspected to be under the influence of narcotics on Sunday, reports said.
The man had been on the top of the building for four hours threatening to stab himself, reported Pretoria Rekord.
“The man is alleged to be under the influence of narcotics and is threatening to stab himself with a broken bottle atop the building.” the report quoted the Tshwane EMS spokesperson, Deputy-chief Charles Mabaso as saying.
The report said that the man, who had been at the top of the building from around 15:00, eventually came down after 19:00.
According to spokesperson for the Tshwane Emergency Services Department, Charles Mabaso, firefighters managed to dissuade the man from committing suicide, IOL reported.
“The man ultimately came down after 7pm and was handed over to the South African Police Service,” Mabaso was quoted saying in the report.
