Cape Town – The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) rescued an Uber driver who was hijacked in Alexandra.
After receiving a report from the vehicle’s owner, officers tracked the car and found a suspect who attempted to flee.
“#JMPD TRU officers received a complaint about the missing Uber driver from the owner. The vehicle coordinates were signalling that the vehicle was stationary in Alexandra. The officers proceeded to the given location for verification. On arrival, they saw a male coming out of the said vehicle. When the male noticed the officers approaching him, he fled & a chase ensued. The officers apprehended him,” the JMPD said in a statement.

Upon his arrest, police discovered the driver locked in the boot. He identified the suspect as one of three men who hijacked him at gunpoint.
“Whilst questioning the suspect, they heard someone screaming & knocking on the boot of the hijacked vehicle. The officers opened the boot & found the Uber driver inside the boot he alluded that he was hijacked by 3x males & pointed the suspect as one of the hijackers who hijacked him at gunpoint.
“The suspect was found in possession of the Uber driver vehicle keys. The suspect was arrested for kidnapping & hijacking & detained at Alexandra SAPS,” the JMPD said.
