Cape Town – A Durban motorist who reportedly ran out of petrol on the N2 near Umdloti off-ramp was allegedly shot dead by suspected robbers on Saturday.
Reports alleged that a family was driving in a convoy of two cars when one of the cars ran out of fuel, then the second car was left with the owner while the other went to get fuel.
According to Medi Response unknown suspects allegedly emerged from the bush on the roadside and shot the man once, before fleeing.
“Advanced life support interventions were initiated on the patient, but unfortunately he succumbed to his injuries,” said Medi Response in a statement.
One of the suspects was, however, arrested shortly after by officers from a private security company, Reaction Unit SA (Rusa).
According to Rusa, two suspects attempted to rob the motorist and a shootout ensued where the victim was shot in the chest.
“After interviewing the surviving victim, officers returned to the scene of the shooting and entered the bush where the suspects had fled,” Rusa said in a statement.
Following a brief search, a 9mm Vector pistol and a red Kappa baseball cap were recovered. Officers continued searching the dense vegetation and eventually tracked and apprehended one of the perpetrators, said Rusa
