Cape Town – Azanian People’s Organisation (Azapo) has reportedly expressed concern over the recent vandalism of Steve Biko’s tombstone, noting the theft of bronze fists attached to it.
The tombstone, unveiled in 2017, stands in the Steve Biko Garden of Remembrance in Ginsberg, eQonce.

According to The Citizen, Azapo criticised the lack of security and maintenance by the government at such important sites and urged the Buffalo City Municipality Metro to provide fencing and security.
“Azapo is puzzled that the government is not maintaining and providing security to such important precincts. The questions we ask are: Could it be that the pivotal role played by Biko and sacrifices made to the people of Azania with his life, is insignificant to them?”
They also called on the South African Police Services to investigate the incident.
