Cape Town – Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officers have arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with a series of airport robberies.
The suspect, allegedly a member of a gang linked to the robberies, was arrested in Houghton on Saturday.
According to JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla, undercover reaction unit officers were patrolling the CBD on Saturday when they received a complaint about a white BMW used in an armed robbery in Bryanston.
He said the vehicle had been spotted in Yeoville and the officers intercepted the vehicle on Houghton Drive and St Patrick Road.

“Upon searching the driver and the vehicle, the officers recovered an unlicensed firearm in his possession. The robbed property, which included an iPad, an iPhone, a laptop, four luggage bags and clothing, was recovered in the vehicle.
“The robbed property was later identified by the owner, who was summoned to the scene and confirmed that he and his family had been robbed at gunpoint on his way home from the airport,” said Fihla.
The suspect was arrested and detained at Hillbrow SAPS. The vehicle used in the commission of the crime was seized and booked at the SAPS Aeroton pound.
