The Johannesburg EMS spokesperson urged the community to exercise caution with electrical appliances and braziers.
“EMS urges the community of Johannesburg to exercise extra precautions when using electrical appliances or braziers, please ensure that these are switched off or put out when not in use,” EWN quoted Joburg EMS spokesperson Xolile Khumalo as saying.
The incident adds to growing concerns about safety in the city centre, following a series of fires in recent years.
