Cape Town – A guest pastor was fatally shot, and two individuals were injured during a live service at Eagle Christian Church in Newlands, Johannesburg, when armed men entered the church on Friday night.
According to EWN, Pastor Dwayne Gordon was tragically killed, and three fellow congregants suffered injuries when a group of armed men forcibly entered the church and began shooting.
The harrowing incident was captured on a live stream that quickly circulated on social media. At the time of the attack, Pastor Gordon’s sermon was being broadcast on the church’s social media platform.
In his final moments, Pastor Gordon expressed gratitude, saying: “Thank you so much, Mervyn, for allowing me on your platform and granting me the opportunity to minister.”

The assailants, numbering six, stormed the church, confronting the congregation and indiscriminately discharging firearms, resulting in the fatal shooting of Pastor Gordon and injuries to three other individuals.
Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said an investigation has been initiated, with a case filed for murder and two counts of attempted murder, Times Live reported.
The assailants also robbed the congregation of their cellphones and belongings before fleeing.
The church plans to enhance security measures for future gatherings and is cooperating with law enforcement to bring the perpetrators to justice, the report said.
