All nominations came from the African National Congress (ANC), with the Democratic Alliance (DA) making no nominations, EWN reported.
The vacancy for the deputy public protector arose when Kholeka Gcaleka assumed the role of the head of the Chapter 9 institution, appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa in November 2023.
The Portfolio Committee on Justice and Correctional Services convened on Wednesday to compile a shortlist of potential candidates following the conclusion of the application period, The Citizen said.
Earlier this month, an advertisement was issued, inviting nominations from the public and applications from eligible candidates, and it closed after a two-week period.
The full list of candidates includes Shadrack Tebeile, Tommy Bunguzana, Azwidini Mavhidula, Tseliso Thipanyane, Siphokazi Moleshe, Ponatshego Mogaladi, Lindiwe Mkhize, and Mari Marriott.
