Cape Town – The owner of a frail care centre in Gqeberha and one of its residents were fatally shot by three assailants who entered through a forced-open window in the lounge at around 03:00 on Friday.
The victims were identified as Riaan van Aswegen, a 53-year-old former police officer and co-owner of the facility, and Vuyo Njoloza, a 59-year-old resident, News24 reported.
Njoloza was shot and died on the spot, while Van Aswegen was shot in the hallway when he came out of his room upon hearing the gunshot.the gunshot.
The robbers stole four cellphones, jewelry belonging to female residents, and two TV sets before leaving through a sliding door.
The Eastern Cape police’s Serious and Violent Crimes Unit has initiated a manhunt for the suspects, and investigations into two counts of murder and one count of house robbery are ongoing.
