Cape Town – The owner of the two pit bulls that viciously mauled a 3-year-old boy to death in the Free State province appeared in court after being arrested, and was granted R300 bail.
According to police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng, the pit bull owner was arrested on Monday morning.
“The owner of the two dogs was arrested this morning, 21 November 2022 and charged as per the Animals Amendment Act – Keeping of Vicious Dogs,” Thakeng said in a statement.

“He appeared in the Hennenman Magistrate Court and the case against Lebohang Pali (21), also known as Mampudi, was postponed to 23 November 2022. He was granted R300-00 bail.”
The video of the incident has been widespread on social media, showing the brutal attack by the two pit bulls on the 3-year-old. Thakeng called on social media users to not spread the graphic video.
According to reports, the owner of the pit bulls had to be reduced from angry community members who wanted to attack him. The enraged members beat one of the dogs before setting it alight. The other dog was taken away by the SPCA.
