Cape Town – South African Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius, who was sentenced to 13 years imprisonment for murdering his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, is set to have his parole hearing next month, but the parents of his murdered girlfriend want to see him stay behind bars.
On the morning of Valentine’s Day 2013, Pistorius shot Reeva while she had been in the bathroom, and said that he had mistaken her for a burglar, firing four shots through the bathroom door.
He was found guilty of murder and started serving his sentence in 2014.
After serving just over half his sentence thus far, Pistorius is pushing for parole, but his efforts were dented by Reeva’s parents, who are adamant to see him remain behind bars.
SABC News reports that Pistorius will be eligible for parole in March 2023.
MailOnline reported that Reeva’s parents Barry and June Steenkamp, said that he would have been a free man by now if he had admitted to killing their daughter in anger.
“I told Oscar directly that he had shot my daughter deliberately and he denied it. He stuck to his story that he thought it was an intruder,” Barry was quoted as saying.
“After all these years we are still waiting for him to admit he did it in anger. That is all we wanted.
“If he told me the truth, he would have been a free man by now and I would have let the law take its course over his parole.
“But I was wasting my time. He is a murderer. He should remain in jail.”

Reeva’s mother said that she believes Oscar must spend the rest of his life in jail.
“Oscar has taken a lot away from us and from Reeva. So now, instead of getting upset I get angry. I am angry with him. It is a horrible thing to say, but I can’t stand him.
“I don’t think that he got enough time (in jail), and if somebody takes a life they must pay with their life in jail,” June was quoted as saying.
