Cape Town – Operation Dudula has expressed its desire to transform itself into a political party in order to contest the 2024 general elections.
EWN reported that the civic organisation held a consultative conference on Sunday at the Johannesburg City Hall.
The majority of members – in attendance from across the country – voted in favour of the organisation contesting in the 2024 elections,
“We are voiceless now. We’ve been on the streets but we can’t be heard. Instead, they are arresting our members,” the report quoted Operation Dudula treasurer-general Solomon Kekana as saying.
Kekana said that he and other leaders from the organsitation plan to approach the electoral commission soon to register as a political party.
According to The South African, Operation Dudula has been labelled as a vigilante and xenophobic organisation and now believes that their measures like closing shops belonging to migrants and, more recently, denying access to healthcare for people based on their appearance and accent, are not getting its message across.
