Cape Town – One person was killed and two others were arrested after a shootout between cash-in-transit (CIT) robbers and the police in Booysens, Johannesburg.
The incident followed a CIT heist in Springs, where armed robbers stopped a cash van, disarmed security guards, and bombed the vehicle to steal an undisclosed amount of money.
“The security guards had just picked up money from various outlets and were on their way back to their base when they were disarmed and the cash van bombed. Suspects got away with an undisclosed amount of money.
“Gauteng police immediately operationalised information and maximum resources were mobilised. Vigilant members attached to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) and the Johannesburg Flying Squad traced the suspects at 20:20 on the M1 south just before the Booysens off-ramp.
