Cape Town — Police Minister, Bheki Cele, said police would be hard at work over the festive season to ensure maximum safety and protection for all citizens throughout the country.
Cele was conducting his annual Safer Festive Season Inspection Roadshow and headed to KZN and Western Cape where he assessed the operational plans to ensure the safety of residents and tourists throughout South Africa during the busy holiday festive season.
Cele was speaking at the Western Cape Roadshow where he said police would be taking a no-nonsense approach to combatting crime this festive season, eNCA reported.
“Mostly we are working on the provinces that are coastal. People still have to be safe here (inland). We are glad that since we launched the safety season in October, the personnel has increased (to) 10 000. Secondly, to see how communities are working with police,” he added.
Cele said police will be out in their numbers to ensure a safer festive season and that there will be no holiday for any policeman or woman.
“We are not going to be able to go to any form of holiday. It is a time for criminals to enjoy themselves and it is a time for law enforcement to push back to allow people to enjoy themselves,” he added.
Cele and some SAPS management headed to KZN where they set up a service point in an effort to bring services closer to communities at Richards Bay Mall.
“Communities will be able to report cases and complaints as well as be provided with information on policing services,” SAPS said
