Cape Town – A 31-year old Nigerian man died in Johannesburg on Tuesday after allegedly swallowing drugs in an attempt to hide evidence from authorities.
According to IOL, Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officers were patrolling Selby in Johannesburg when they saw a red Polo parked, with a window open while the driver was talking to someone outside the car, seemingly exchanging what looked like drugs.
When the officers approached the vehicle, both the red polo and the guy standing outside the car, bolted.
Officers pursued and managed to stop the red polo.
They conducted a search and discovered drugs in the driver’s possession.

When questioned, the driver said the drugs were his brothers, not his.
The authorities then asked him to show them where his brother was.
When his brother noticed the JMPD officers were onto him, he ran away and allegedly took some drugs from his front body and swallowed them.
“Police searched the vehicle and drugs were found inside. The driver indicated that the drugs belonged to his brother. The suspect was arrested and put inside the police vehicle to show the police where his brother was. When the brother noticed the police he ran away took out drugs from his front body and swallowed them,” The Citizen quoted Independent Police investigative Directorate’s (Ipid) spokesperson Grace Langa as sayig.
In a matter of time, he collapsed.
An ambulance was then called to the scene and he was declared dead.
Langa said that a post mortem was set to be conducted at Hillbrow Mortuary.
