According to News24, Nasser’s brother said he had recently returned from a trip abroad and had not informed anyone of his return.
The shooting led to a shootout over a distance of more than 500 meters, with Nasser sustaining gunshot wounds to his head and cheek, the report quoted sources as saying.
He was found with a significant amount of money on him, which he had apparently withdrawn from the bank before the incident.
The motive for the attack is yet to be determined, and investigations are ongoing.
“The circumstances surrounding a shooting incident Wednesday morning at about 08:00 in Bosmansdam Road, Milnerton – where an adult male was shot and fatally wounded – are under investigation,” police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg was quoted as saying.
Video footage shows the assailants making a U-turn and opening fire on Nasser’s vehicle at a traffic light.
