Cape Town – The Nelson Mandela Foundation has reportedly announced the dismissal of its outgoing CEO, Sello Hatang, following an investigation into allegations of serious misconduct.
Hatang was placed on special leave in May after complaints were made by staff members regarding his behaviour.
The foundation conducted an independent investigation, considering the rights of both the complainants and Hatang, Times Live reported.
“After considering the outcomes of the independent investigation and ensuring that the process had been conducted fairly and without prejudice, the board concluded that Mr Hatang’s conduct had been unbecoming and was unacceptable for someone in his position — and that he should be summarily dismissed,” the report quoted foundation chairperson Prof Njabulo Ndebele as saying.
The focus now is on maintaining continuity in the foundation’s activities and appointing a new CEO.
“The process of appointing a new CEO will begin soon. Alongside this, the trustees are working closely with the interim management of the foundation to ensure a process of rebuilding staff morale after this extremely difficult episode,” said Ndebele.
